What I’m Interested In…

I’m not interested in everything. But I am interested in a number of things. Here’s a list: our daughters, our grandchildren, Airplanes, Trains, the Norfolk & Western Railway, Ships (especially naval), the Civil War (American), the Second World War, espionage, high tech defense systems, Puritan theology, the Reformation, rock and roll (1955 to 1975), Christian praise music, ecclesiastical polity, LOTR, baseball cards, movies and films, good TV series, architecture in general, Art Deco style in art, Frank Lloyd Wright, my high school classmates, Dallas Theological Seminary, the lasting influence of certain Bible preachers and scholars, the questions of how the Christian faith influences current civil society today, the practice of spiritual abuse within supposedly Christian ministries, Influence and Power in human organizations, the history of Virginia, Massachusetts and Texas, fountain pens, writing, archaeology, ancient Greece and Rome, Watergate, podcasting, early American history, the Apache chief Coshise, a long list of 19th century U.S. Army officers, my few friends who draw/paint/wood sculpt, machine design, abortion as an issue, and probably other things I can’t recall at the moment.

But that leaves out things like motorcycles, camping, snowboarding, fishing, professional wrestling, lots of genres of music, opera, what’s on Broadway right now, current pop stars, professional golf, NASCAR, hockey and skiing. I’m also not interested in cooking, home decorating (you know, as a snooty thing), Scottish politics, beer, The Walking Dead (or zombies of any kind), the macabre, CBD products, solar power, metal detecting, hair styles, tattooing, piercing, transgender clothing styles, defending being a Baptist, a Presbyterian, a Pentecostal or an Episcopalian (actually I don’t think Episcopalians defend themselves anyway). There’s lots of other things I’m not interesting in I can’t recall at the moment.

This doesn’t mean I will never develop any new interests, even some of the above. And I feel guilty for not being an outdoorsman much. I think I am supposed to be such, since I was raised in the outdoors. My Dad and hiking-daughter would be ashamed of my lack of interest in most of what can be done only outdoors. But that’s where I’m at at the moment.
